New reward/discipline system

I've decided to do "GEM JARS" for the boys' rewards and discipline. I got them each a jar and decorated it according to boy:)

Monkey jar is for Dylan and Puppy jar is for Drew. I bought decorative gems in 3 sizes. You fill your jar to the first banana/dog bowl, you get to go to the dollar store or dollar bins at Target. Get to the top banana/dog bowl and get a reward of choice...this could be dinner with both parents and just you, a movie, trip to a playgym, etc. Whatever you are wanting to do for the reward.

The small gems are for everyday expectations: getting dressed, brushing teeth, getting in tub the first time we ask, clothes in the hamper, simple tasks that should only be asked for once! You do it the first time, you get a small gem.

The medium size gems are for harder, daily things: cleaning up toys, throwing trash away, helping with dinner and clean up, any other harder daily chore.

The great big, pretty crystal like ones are for random acts of kindness. Being kind to your brother for the sake of it, not having to be asked. Helping each other with something, hugging when they are hurt, getting something for the other, etc.

Now, the gems can be taken away! The larger ones are taken away for any unkind act. So you get them for kindness, lose them for unkind things. For example, say you earn a large gem for getting something for your brother. Then you hit/kick/punch/etc. him and you lose a large gem! If you have no large gems, you lose a handful of other gems!

We have tried chore charts and I'm hoping this will work. I showed the boys at 8 am this morning and Drew has 3 and Dylan has 1. Fingers crossed that this will make our time together this summer less stressful.

And as long as it works, I don't mind my counter looking like this....
