The boys learned a hard life lesson on Thanksgiving day......
My grandma told us about this stray cat that showed up in her yard and had babies only a few weeks before Thanksgiving. We were in the kitchen setting up for lunch and we heard a kitten cry. She had to go outside to get something and we saw this little white and tan ball of fur by her back porch steps. It was so tiny and so cute. He was all balled up just crying. We left him alone but noticed his eyes looked gunky. We left him there and went back inside. We told the boys that his mama had abandoned him and that happens in the "wild".
About an hour later, we checked on him and he had moved but was crying louder. I went out to find him and he was wedged between some bricks that my grandma has on her porch. He was shivering and we were worried about him being cold. So my grandma brought me an old towel. I grabbed the kitten and wrapped him up. I took him to where grandma last saw the other kitties and mama playing. They weren't there. It was very cold that day so I put him in a warm spot on the side of her house. He didn't want to stay, so I kinda wedged the towel in and tried to get him to stay. I went in and we ate and played and visited and had Thanksgiving.
Everyone napped and some left to go back home. I was getting the boys ready to head back home, and I just thought I'd check on him.....
he was laying in the flower bed all alone and he wasn't breathing. I went in and told my grandma in spanish that the cat was dead, so the boys wouldn't know what I said.
Then they asked to see him before we left. UGH, I do not lie to my kids, so we went over to the flower bed to find him. The boys thought he was sleeping but when he didn't move when they were talking to him I explained to them that he had died. His mama left him and she moved on because he was sick, and that's what happens in the wild with animals.
They were ok with the cat dying. I explained that he was not sleeping, but in fact dead. They said bye to the kitten and we hugged Momo and got in the car to come back home. Nothing has been said since about that cat. I did what I knew to do, and I wanted that kitty to be warm. But, it obviously had other problems.
coming up on 2...
