So we signed Drew up for T-Ball. I have to be really honest and tell you that I'm very hesitant and nervous about the whole thing. You see, we are a baseball family. I grew up in a baseball family. My Grandpa played his whole life and in the Army. My dad played his whole life, then coached, then refereed the game for many years at all levels (except pro). My brother has played his whole life and now coaches at the college level. We ARE baseball!
Drew has a baseball room---bed, fan, lamps, piggy banks, quilts, etc. His nursery was baseball themed. He has to love this game.
The boys have both been going to college and minor league baseball games since they were babies. We've had tees in the yard since they were both walking!
So, when he said he was ready to play.....we signed him up.
Craig will be the assistant coach. Our head coach is a high school coach. Coaches kids and a few other "protected" players didn't have to try out for the team. I know what you are thinking....tryouts??!!
Yep! TRYOUTS. For t-ball. 5-6 year old t-ball. Not select ball!
Craig is spending this Saturday morning at the ball fields watching these kids try out. He and the other coaches will then go to lunch and discuss who they saw and liked. The draft is this afternoon! um, are we forgetting that they are 5!

I told Craig to watch the other parents as well as the players, if not more!
Don't get me wrong, I'm so excited and thrilled for this day. I've always wanted to be a "baseball mom". And now I get to, but Drew scares me. He is not patient with himself and gives up easily. If he doesn't have early success, I'm worried that he won't love the game the way we all do. He can't be critisized. He needs to be encouraged. We need to remind Daddy and Daddy's parents of this often when it comes to Drew.
I truly want him to love this game and play it for a lifetime!
I just pray that he doesn't "burn out".
I mean afterall, the chances of any of these kids playing into college is what, like 5%?!

That of course would be amazing, but let's be realistic here.
I do not agree with t-ball tryouts....select team, yes. High school, yes. But these "drafts"? I mean, that's a bit ridiculous!
